Week #1: Welcome to the Spring Semester of Gifted Program Prep Level 1 for the 2017-2018 School Year
Good afternoon all,
My name is Hanson Dai, and I will be the new teacher for Gifted Program Level Spring Semester this year. First off, if you have received this email, then you successfully registered your child in my class. Secondly, I have made a website for this class to showcase the course and I will also be uploading pictures of the children from the class (will ask parents to sign an agreement form) onto the website. In addition, the website will also be utilized for students to complete online homework assignments. Link to the class website: https://mrhansondai.weebly.com/. Next, throughout the semester, every single assignment that students complete and turn in to me, will count for points. I will keep track of the points that each student earns in a class database called teacherease.com, which will provide for a final semester grade (total points earned/total points possible). More details are in the course syllabus. Student grades will be included in a report that I hand out twice in the semester (one after the mid-term exam and one after the final exam). Not only will the points count for a grade, but students will also redeem their points for prizes and gifts at the end of the semester based on class funding. Students can earn bonus points in various ways during class time and extra work that serve as extra credit. In the case that a student is not happy about a score they received on an assignment, please let me know and I will figure something out. Some assignments even allow for re submission for either partial credit back or even full credit. The link to your student's teacherease account (where you view grades/points will be sent in a separate email. Other details about the course are all provided in my syllabus (attached in this email).
1: NWCS Fall Semester K1GP Knowledge Check (grades now available for viewing on teacherease.com)
2: Reviewed some of the questions on the knowledge check
3: Ice-Breaker Bingo!
For your child's first homework assignment, this semester, I would like them to complete two things. First, I would like them to explore the website with their parents then answer the questions on the online work page of the website. Second, I would like students to write a short essay about themselves covering at least half a sheet of paper. Both these count for points!
Next week, I will continue going over the knowledge check.
You are encouraged to make donations by cash or by time match through some companies' program to our class (Gifted Program Level 1). The donations that I receive for this class, will go directly towards the use technology in the classroom, fun and interactive activities and games, high quality class materials, and gifts for the students. This can only be made possible by sufficient class funding.
Have an amazing week and I am looking forward to an awesome semester!
