Dear NWCS Gifted Program Prep Level 1 families,
It has come to my attention that the course has been too fast paced lately, making it a little bit difficult for students to keep up with the content. After lots of parent feedback and consideration, I have decided to slow down the course a little bit starting next week (week 7 - 10/27/2018). Because the course will slow down, that means the course schedule will change as well. The new updated fall semester course schedule is attached. You may notice that I have added 2-digit and 3-digit addition and subtraction in the new updated course schedule. This is because many parents felt that it was best for me to provide instruction on it, rather than just having the students practice it at home on their own. After analyzing homework score statistics, I thought that it would be best if I taught the 2-digit and 3-digit addition and subtraction as well. Most of the course schedule changes were made to the classes after the mid-term exam. Week 7 (10/27/2018) will still be mid-term exam review and week 8 (11/3/2018) will still be the mid-term exam. Some of the topics that were originally going to be taught in the fall semester will be taught in the spring semester instead to allow more room for the students to digest what they learned every week, instead of jumping straight to a brand new, completely foreign concept every class.
My mission as your child's NWCS gifted prep teacher is to help them prepare for gifted qualification exams and gain the necessary confidence and familiarity with elementary gifted level topics, as well as having them apply what they learned in my class to real world scenarios. Having this mission in mind, I hope my decision is one that you agree with. I want every student to succeed in my class and I hope that the changes I made will allow for one step closer towards your child's success. Many of the concepts I teach are rather difficult for children at this young of age, but I believe in the importance of learning it early, rather than later, so that they have an easier time throughout their academic career from elementary school, all the way to high school. Thank you for your support!
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please always feel free to let me know!
