2018 Summer Camp
I hope everyone is having a terrific weekend so far. Today in K1GP we began to learn multiplication and introduced the concept of basic nouns and basic adjectives. Students took a partner quiz on nouns to test what they learned. Scores for the partner quiz and the lecture notes on multiplication and nouns and adjectives have been entered into the gradebook and are now available for viewing. The behavior of students in class today was excellent! Everyone gave participation and their effort. I have also finished grading the homework project assignment project from last week, which was for verbs and action verbs. Scores are looking good, but seven students failed to turn in the project to me. Completing the homework that I assign is definitely optional, but not doing it takes away practice and learning opportunities. Not doing it also has a large impact on the student's course grade because I will give a 0. Students who did complete the project will be presenting them, along with their clock projects from week 2 starting next week. Looking at the projects turned in, the effort is looking very good.
Many parents have asked me to provide an overall schedule for the class for the whole semester. I did not include it in the syllabus, but I have it in the gradebook. Everything that students will learn up until the mid-term is in the gradebook's calendar if you would like to see.
As for the course textbook, several students still have not purchased one yet. The plan is to begin rigorous COGAT preparation after the mid-term test, and having the textbook is critical for that. Details about the textbook were sent out in every update email since week 2. Here is the link to purchase it on Amazon, if you haven't done so yet.

I would prefer that every student has a textbook by the mid-term test so that I
can stay on schedule with the course material. If you have issues with purchasing one, please let me know ASAP, so that we can work something out.
Next, a few reminders. First, there is a class website if you aren't already aware. mrhansondai.weebly.com. Secondly, I would like to introduce a new system in my class. Starting from today (3/10), I will be available after class for a little while to provide students with extra help if they need it, answer questions, or if a student needs to make up work that they missed. Since I started this today, I won't be available next week, but the following week. Third, I have scheduled the mid-term test for March 31st, which is exactly three weeks from today (week 8). More details about it will be sent out in a later email.
HOMEWORK: For this week's homework assignment, I have attached five worksheets for students to complete. Print the worksheets out and staple them together. Remember to have your child write their first & last name on each paper that they turn into me. That is a rule in my class because their are multiple similar names. These worksheets are good practice for what we learned today. Topics in the worksheet include Multiplication, Nouns, and Adjectives. All FIVE worksheets are due next class (3/17).
That is it for this week's email. Thank you very much for your support and for taking your time to read this email. Remember to stay involved in your child's learning by checking your child's grades on teacherease.com often. I update the class gradebook often so that you can check your child's scores for recent assignments as fast as possible. Teacherease.com also shows your child's attendance. If you or your student have any questions regarding the course, please do not hesitate to ask!
Have a great week and see you all next week!
