2018 Summer Camp
Good evening class,
Today we learned about 2D Shapes. We also took a Mini-Test on the basics of fractions. I have put the scores of the fractions test along with many other assignments into the Teacherease gradebook. I would strongly recommend that all parents check their student's grade in the class.
I would like to inform everyone that I have officially scheduled the Gifted Program Level 1 Spring Semester Final Exam for week #14 (May 19th, 2018). As this date is fast approaching, students should start preparing. The best resource to study for this exam would be the handouts page of my website. I have included all handouts and lecture notes there. Here is the link. https://mrhansondai.weebly.com/handouts.html
The Final Exam will have all content (cumulative) starting from week #1 of the spring semester. There is only one more topic, which is money that I haven't covered and I will next class.
In addition, I have scheduled the very last class (week #16 - June 9th, 2018) to be a class end of year party. More details about that will be sent in a later email
April 28th, 2018 - Week #11
1) Fractions Test
Please note that fractions is considered an extremely advanced topic for children at this age. I simplified it to be concurrent with the material in their regular school. The scores for test were low, but a 70% or above is considered good. It was an open-note test to teach students how lecture notes can be very helpful in their learning.
2) 2D Shapes, Area, Perimeter Lecture and notes
1) Textbook pages 43 - 62
2) 2D Shapes Online Test
This is on my class website on the online work page. It has 3 parts, because my website design software does not allow me to have more than 5 questions for each part. That is why students need to write their name 3 times and press submit 3 times. I need them to do so that I can keep track of their work.
3) 2D Shapes Project: Tesselations
This week, students will be working on an art project that is related to 2D shapes. They will make their own Tessellation. I would like them to research with their parents on what a Tessellation is and make their own. Please include color and pay attention to detail.
One last thing. Please Please Please remind your student to write their first and last name on everything they turn in. I started to take points off if their last name isn't on their work. If their first and last name isn't on their work, then i don't know who's it is.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know!
Best regards and have a great week!
