2018 Summer Camp
Good afternoon all,
1. Today was the last class session for week 1 of camp, meaning that there is no class tomorrow. Class will resume on Monday (8/13) and end next Thursday (8/16).
Today was math day. Students started off by taking a COGAT sample test that I created based off my past experiences in gifted programs. This sample test served as the mid-term exam. All of them are graded and entered into TeacherEase if you would like to see your child’s score. You may notice that there is two parts. This is because the test was separated into word analogies and picture analogies. After the test, students were introduced to multiplication, addition & subtraction word problems, and U.S. currency money. All students took notes so ask your child to show you the notes they took. Pictures of today’s whiteboard are attached in this email and will be posted to the class website.
A summary of what we did today:
1. COGAT Warm-Up
2. Mid-Term Exam (COGAT Sample Test)
4. Addition and Subtraction Application (Word Problems)
5. U.S. currency money
A reminder that this course’s final exam is scheduled for next Wednesday (8/15). It would be a good idea to start reviewing the concepts taught this week, as they will all show up on the final exam.
Today’s Homework - DUE MONDAY
1. Multiplication Worksheet
2. 3 digit Addition Worksheet
3. 3 Digit Subtraction Worksheet
4. Book Report:
Since I also like to teach public speaking in my class, part of monday’s class focus will be public speaking. Students should select their favorite book and write a detailed one whole page report on it. They should also draw a picture with color to accompany their report. The report can be typed or handwritten. It would also be great if they can bring their book as well. If they don’t have the book, or can’t access it at the library, a picture would be fine. They will be presenting this project to the whole entire class. This project should be legible and neat.
A summary of what we did this whole week:
Monday: Parts of Speech (Nouns, Adjectives, Verbs)
Tuesday: Clocks (Reading clocks and telling time)
Wednesday: Intro to COGAT and reading comprehension
Thursday: Multiplication, addition and subtraction word problems, money
The plan for next week:
Monday: English Language Granmar, Number Rounding, Intro. to Geometry, and Public Speaking
Tuesday: Science and Final Exam Review
Wednesday: Final Exam and Final Essay
Thursday: Review the Final Exam and test taking tips
By the way, if your child is ever struggling with their homework, their in-class notes and my whiteboard pictures are a great resource to help them. You can also email me if you ever have any homework questions
Have an amazing weekend and see you all next week!
